Woven Saddle Pad & Show Blanket Care
A little care after each ride helps keep your pad ready for the next one. This guide covers our woven show and ranch blankets and Unicorn pads with a woven top and wool-felt underside.
Start gently. Different yarns, dyes, trims and pad constructions do not all wash the same way. Follow any care label supplied with your item. If it conflicts with this guide, or you are unsure which pad you have, contact us before cleaning.
After your ride
- Remove the saddle and let both sides of the pad air out in a sheltered, well-ventilated place.
- Wait until surface dirt is dry, then use a clean, soft brush to lift loose dust and hair. Use light strokes rather than scrubbing.
- Let the pad dry completely before packing it away or using it again. Keep it away from heaters and strong direct sunlight.
Woven top or show blanket
Keep brushes away from loose yarn ends and decorative details. Do not pull on snags. For a fresh spill, press with a clean, dry cloth to absorb it without spreading it across the pattern.
For a small surface mark, first test a hidden part of each affected colour with a white cloth barely dampened with cool water. Allow the test area to dry and check for colour transfer, a water mark or a change in texture. Stop if you notice any change. If the test is clear, lightly dab only the mark, then press with a dry cloth. Do not saturate the weave.
Wool-felt underside of a Unicorn pad
Turn the dry pad over and gently remove loose hair and surface dirt with a soft brush. Do not scrape, dig into or aggressively scrub the felt. An attached woven top still needs protecting, so washing advice for a plain felt pad should not be applied to the whole Unicorn pad.
If sweat and dirt have formed a hard layer that gentle brushing will not remove, contact us before attempting a deeper clean.
Wear leathers and trim
Brush off dry dust and wipe surface dirt gently with a soft cloth. Keep leather oils, conditioners and cleaners off the woven fabric and felt. Check with us before treating printed, metallic or decorative finishes.
Before a full clean
Do not soak, hose, pressure-wash, steam-clean, machine-wash or tumble-dry these woven products without specific instructions for your item. Avoid bleach, household stain removers and vigorous rubbing. A successful spot test does not mean the whole pad can safely be washed.
For stubborn stains, heavy soiling or colour movement, send us a photo and your product name or order number. We can help identify the pad before you choose a cleaning method. A specialist cleaner should assess the dyes, felt and any leather trim together.
